Dry areas represent 44% of earth surface. They are not uninhabited; they regroup one in three people in the world.

“Desertification means land degradation in arid, semi-arid and dry sub-humid areas resulting from various factors, including climatic variations and human activities” Definition from the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.

Land degradation is manifested through the deterioration of vegetation cover, soil and water resources.

It results in the destruction of the biological potential of the land or its capacity to support the people who live on it. Life in all its forms gradually disappears, resulting in food insecurity, poverty, migration…
